Prediction Error Method (PEM)-Based Howling Cancellation in Hearing Aids: Can We Do Better?

چکیده

This work develops an effective technique acoustic feedback cancellation (AFC) in the digital hearing aid (DHAid) devices. The normalized least mean square (NLMS) algorithm-based AFC method may suffer from a biased convergence. convergence problem is considerably resolved by prediction error (PEM)-based (PEM-AFC); however, it demonstrate slow proposed method’s main structure based two adaptive filters. filter receives its input DHAid receiver signal, while auxiliary activated probe signal. idea to apply lattice filtering-based pre-processing for decorrelation filter’s update equation. produces Newton-like algorithm with fast Additionally, filtering executed on sample-by-sample basis, contrast frame-based execution traditional PEM-AFC method. As system converges, level of signal decreased improve output SNR; low-level slows down In order speed, gradient information maximum Versoria-criterion (MVC) incorporated into algorithm. filters’ coefficients are exchanged, ensure that both filters converge good estimate true path. Simulations show works well speech/signals and devices different gain settings. shows robust performance event sudden change environment.

Improved prediction error filters for adaptive feedback cancellation in hearing aids

Acoustic feedback is a well-known problem in hearing aids, caused by the undesired acoustic coupling between the hearing aid loudspeaker and microphone. Acoustic feedback produces annoying howling sounds and limits the maximum achievable hearing aid amplification. This paper is focused on adaptive feedback cancellation (AFC) where the goal is to adaptively model the acoustic feedback path and e...

Howling and Entrainment in Hearing Aids: A Review

This review focuses on howling and entrainment artifacts in digital hearing aids. The howling may occur (especially at high gains), essentially due to the close proximity of the input microphone and the output loudspeaker. The entrainment, on the other hand, occurs when the input to the hearing aids is periodic, for example, music signals or alarm signals with strong tonal characteristics. We g...

Query-Based Sampling: Can we do Better than Random?

Many servers on the web offer content that is only accessible via a search interface. These are part of the deep web. Using conventional crawling to index the content of these remote servers is impossible without some form of cooperation. Query-based sampling provides an alternative to crawling requiring no cooperation beyond a basic search interface. In this approach, conventionally, random qu...
